On the evening of December 27, 2012, 41-year-old Andre Hudson of Holts Summit was shot and killed in Jefferson City, Missouri. Hudson had gone into the city that night and ended up in the back seat of a Dodge Stratus near Zesto’s Drive-In. Two men, Calvin Hutson and Justin Beasley, had earlier agreed to rob someone of marijuana and obtained a nine-millimeter handgun before meeting Hudson.

Court records state Hutson fired the weapon while Beasley sat in the driver’s seat and Hudson and Hutson were in the back. Hudson’s wife, who had driven separately to the location, witnessed the aftermath; she pursued Hutson in her SUV and struck him as he fled, after which he was taken into custody with injuries he initially said were self-inflicted or from a struggle.

Beasley later cooperated, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in September 2013 and received a ten-year sentence with at least 85 percent to be served before parole eligibility. Hutson was convicted by a jury of second-degree felony murder, first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm, and was sentenced to consecutive terms including life for the murder.
