Melvin Childress, a 22-year-old African-American man, was found dead in a field near 69th Street North and Woodlawn in Sedgwick County, Kansas on October 18, 2001. His death was ruled a homicide and remains unsolved.
In the period before his death Childress was last seen after borrowing a car from a friend; that vehicle was later located abandoned in the 800 block of North Ohio in Wichita. No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been reported, and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office continues to list the case as an open cold case.
Who remembers seeing Melvin, the car he borrowed, or anything unusual in that area around mid-October 2001?
