Ahmad Rashad Gardner, 35, died on a Tuesday morning in North Charleston, South Carolina, after a vehicle incident that ended in a fatal, self-inflicted gunshot wound. Gardner was driving east on Rivers Avenue and attempted a U-turn near Mall Drive but did not complete the maneuver. His vehicle drove through a parking lot at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Dalton Street and struck an unoccupied car.
North Charleston police arrived around 6:20 a.m. and found Gardner with a wound to his groin consistent with a gunshot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. After investigating the circumstances, the North Charleston Police Department determined the shooting was an accidental discharge of a firearm while Gardner was driving. A section of Rivers Avenue was closed for about an hour during the investigation.
Does anyone in the area have additional details about the crash or saw what happened that morning?
