Keyjuan Ford, 19, was shot during an altercation at the Relax Inn on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston on the morning of October 26, 2022. He was taken to Trident Medical Center but died of his injuries on November 8, 2022.

Police identified two suspects, 22-year-old Brooklyn Mitchell and 19-year-old Markwon Stanley. Surveillance footage from the motel reportedly shows Mitchell and Stanley entering Ford’s room; investigators say Mitchell shot Ford in the torso and the pair fled with a sum of money. An initial report described a suspect at the scene around 11 a.m. wearing all black and a black ski mask.

Both were arrested in early January 2023 — Stanley on January 8 and Mitchell on January 9 — and were charged in connection with Ford’s death. Authorities also tied them to an earlier October 2022 robbery at a Red Roof Inn in North Charleston where they allegedly posed as housekeeping to enter and rob four people.

If anyone has information about Ford, the motel encounter, or the other October incident, please come forward.
