Janare Fletcher was 15 and a student at Dillon High School when he was fatally shot on the evening of Tuesday, June 7, 2022, in the Bunker Hill community of Dillon County, South Carolina. Described by family as caring and respectful with a passion for sports, Janare’s death deeply affected the small town and its schools.

The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office investigated the shooting and arrested a 13-year-old, NyMiere Palmer, who was charged with murder in connection with the killing. The 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office petitioned to have Palmer tried as an adult, saying the evidence would show a deliberate and premeditated act of violence.
