Demetrius Nigerian Wood, 22, was shot and killed outside a residence on General Drive in Gaffney, South Carolina, around 10:00 p.m. on May 1, 2022. Deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office found him unresponsive and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the shooting grew out of what began as play fighting or horse playing between Demetrius and another person, and that a firearm was introduced and discharged. Authorities believed the shooter and Demetrius were acquainted and that the suspect fled the scene, crossing into North Carolina.

The investigation identified 37-year-old Scotty Lindsay as the primary suspect. In June 2023 Lindsay was arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, extradited to South Carolina, charged with murder and denied bond at his initial court appearance. Does anyone have information about Demetrius, his movements that night, or contacts who might help clarify what happened?
