He had plans to play football at South Carolina State University.

The shooting occurred in the early morning in downtown Myrtle Beach near 12th Avenue North and Withers Alley. Four people were struck by gunfire that night; Dickens died of his injuries and three others were treated. The Myrtle Beach Police Department arrested three people in connection with the incident: 20-year-old Tai’yuan Ja’rel Jackson on murder and related counts, 22-year-old Li’quan Tyrese Hickson charged with accessory after the fact, and a juvenile who was also charged.
