On April 5, 2022, a day shift at the Frankische plastics plant in Anderson County, South Carolina, ended in a workplace shooting. Iain Samuel Peare, 24, of Belton, was working near an unlocked side door when a former coworker, 51-year-old Bruce Vandermosten of Anderson, entered armed with an AR-style rifle and fired roughly six rounds. Peare was struck in the head and later pronounced dead; the coroner ruled his death a homicide.
A female employee was grazed by a bullet and survived. About 30 other workers fled to a nearby restaurant, where they were sheltered until the scene was secure. After the initial burst of gunfire, Vandermosten shot himself and died at the scene; there were no arrests or prosecutions. Investigators reported they believe Vandermosten acted over an unreciprocated romantic interest, and that no specific person was singled out in the attack.
