On March 2, 2022, a shooting in the parking lot of the Sangaree branch of the Berkeley County Library in Summerville, South Carolina, killed 15-year-old Malaki Trayvion Mazyck. He was taken to Brighton Park Emergency Room and pronounced dead on arrival. An 18-year-old, Kenyon Johnson, also wounded in the same incident, died the following morning.

Investigators conducted a multi-state search that led to the arrest of a 17-year-old at a resort in Orlando, Florida, by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force. The suspect was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and is expected to be tried as an adult.

The community was left mourning two young lives lost in a single incident. If anyone has information about that evening in the Sangaree library parking lot, please come forward.
