On the afternoon of Sunday, February 6, 2022, 18-year-old Nicolas Davis of Dillon, South Carolina, was shot on Beaufort Street and taken to McLeod Regional Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The Dillon Police Department opened a homicide investigation and used surveillance footage to identify suspects.

Two people were arrested in connection with the killing. Tyquez Jalikka Stanley, 20 at the time, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime; he was reported to have been out on bond on separate armed robbery and weapon possession charges. An 18-year-old, Kaheim Peppers, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact of murder.

Stanley later admitted responsibility and pleaded guilty to the murder and related robbery charges; a judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison in September 2025. The community continued to follow the legal proceedings involving Peppers as it mourned Davis’s death. Anyone with information about Nicolas Davis or the shooting is asked to come forward.
