On the evening of December 27, 2021, 21-year-old Jasmond Grant and 17-year-old Damarion Champagne were found dead inside a burning apartment on Sumner Avenue in North Charleston, South Carolina. First responders were initially called for a shooting but discovered the residence engulfed in flames; the Charleston County Coroner’s Office later confirmed both young men died of gunshot wounds. The case was treated as a double homicide with the subsequent fire described by authorities as an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.

Police identified Rashlean Richmond Washington as a suspect and issued active warrants charging Washington with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and second-degree arson. Law enforcement has warned Washington should be considered armed and dangerous and continues to seek tips that could lead to an arrest.

If anyone has information about what happened that night or the whereabouts of Washington, please come forward to North Charleston Police.
