On August 2, 2021, Megan Lee Gale Dinkins, a 30-year-old White woman and manager at Waffle House and Krystal’s, was shot to death at a home on Heddy Road in Greenwood County, South Carolina. The attack also killed her 11-year-old daughter Shay Nicole Dinkins and her uncle Randy Grant Perkins; an 8-year-old boy was shot and injured but escaped and alerted a neighbor.
Jeffery David Powell, 36, a man with family ties to the victims, opened fire that day, fled the scene, took an Uber to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, and flew to Jacksonville, Florida. U.S. Marshals arrested him the same night at a Red Roof Inn in Jacksonville. Powell was extradited to South Carolina, charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, pleaded guilty to those charges, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Reports suggested Powell feared being asked to leave the home where he had been staying intermittently, though the exact motive was not fully clear.
Did anyone in the Greenwood area know Megan or her family and witness anything that night?
