On the evening of July 7, 2021, in Sumner, South Carolina, a dispute at a mobile home park between 29-year-old Xavier Javon Ballard and a woman he had a previous relationship with escalated into a fatal shooting. The woman’s current boyfriend, 18-year-old Jamie Golden Jr., arrived during the altercation and allegedly shot Ballard. Ballard was taken to a local hospital and died of his injuries.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation and, within a day, arrested three people in connection with the death. Jamie Golden Jr. was charged with murder and reportedly admitted to shooting Ballard during an interview with investigators. Two others were arrested on charges of accessory after the fact.
