Perry James McIntyre, a 49-year-old service technician for Charter Communications, was killed on July 1, 2021, in Spartanburg, South Carolina while working at a residence on Amelia Street. The day’s violence began when Shannon Earl Smith, 45, reportedly shot and wounded two city water employees near Cleveland Park, then retreated to his home where McIntyre was present.

A prolonged standoff with law enforcement followed. During the hours-long encounter Smith shot and wounded a Spartanburg County Sheriff’s deputy and a woman inside the house, and McIntyre was fatally shot. Law enforcement officers returned fire; Smith was taken to a hospital and later died of his wounds. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation; no further arrests were made.

McIntyre was described as an innocent worker killed while performing his duties. Does anyone have information about McIntyre’s route that day or witnessed the standoff near Amelia Street?
