On the morning of June 1, 2021, deputies found 52-year-old John Darren Grainger shot to death in his yard along Highway 41 near the 576 Bypass in Marion County. The Marion County coroner reported the shooting occurred just after 4 a.m. and investigators secured part of the road as the scene was processed. The State Law Enforcement Division assisted in the early investigation.
Grainger was remembered in his death notice as a member of Centenary Baptist Church who drove a gas truck and did autobody paint and repair in the community. Within a week, Samuel Diego Pacheco of Conway was arrested and charged with murder; he was arraigned before a Marion County magistrate and held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County pending further court action. About a month after the killing, Jordan Danielle Grainger was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact of murder and misprision of felony; community members reported she was believed to be the victim’s daughter but that relationship was not officially confirmed and no motive has been released.
If anyone knew John Grainger or has information about what happened that morning, please share what can help the investigation.
