Dante Malik Atkins, 19, was found dead in a secluded area on Baron DeKalb Road in Camden, South Carolina, in the early morning of May 19, 2021. Investigators determined he died of a gunshot wound and have treated the case as a homicide. He had been a recent graduate of North Central High School and was described as a Black male from Columbia who enjoyed music, basketball, and football.
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department led the initial probe and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division joined the investigation. Authorities say the remote location where his body was found suggests the person or persons responsible may have known him and been aware he would be there. As of the latest update, no arrests have been announced and no suspects have been publicly identified.
Anyone with information about Dante’s movements or who might have seen him in the area on May 18 or 19, 2021 is urged to come forward.
