Gregory Leon Belton, a 57-year-old Black/African American man, was shot and killed inside his home on Diamond Street in Anderson, South Carolina, in the early afternoon of May 3, 2021. He returned to the residence shortly before 2:00 p.m.; an unidentified person entered the home and multiple shots were fired. The Anderson County Coroner pronounced Belton dead about 2:15 p.m., and an autopsy confirmed a gunshot wound to the head; his death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and forensic teams processed the scene, and neighbors reported seeing a white, newer-model Nissan Sentra in the area around the time of the shooting. A large crowd had gathered but, according to reports, no one came forward with information. No arrests have been made, and the case cooled until the Anderson Area Crime Stoppers offered a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The investigation is described as ongoing. If anyone knew Gregory, saw activity on Diamond Street that afternoon, or has information about the white Nissan Sentra, please contact authorities with what was seen.
