Mary Frances Brown, a 50-year-old lifelong resident of Florence, South Carolina and a hairstylist for more than three decades, was fatally shot during an apparent robbery on May 1, 2021. Her body was discovered the next day inside her vehicle, which had been driven to a secluded, wooded area near Quinby; someone had attempted to set the car on fire.

Authorities identified 31-year-old Jonathan Lee Love as a suspect. Love, who had a lengthy criminal history and had been released on bond months earlier on separate serious charges including attempted murder and possession of a stolen vehicle, was arrested in connection with Brown’s death and charged with murder, first-degree arson, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Mary Brown is remembered in the community for her warm spirit and long service as a hairstylist. If anyone has information about what happened that morning at the convenience store or around Quinby, please share what you know.
