Joshua Alexander Richardson-Ross was killed on the afternoon of April 28, 2021, in the lobby of the Sleep Inn off Carowinds Boulevard in Fort Mill, South Carolina. He was 18 and reportedly an extended-stay guest at the motel when a suspect entered the lobby and shot him.

Authorities named 20-year-old Isaiah Jones as the person who fled after the shooting; witnesses later saw Jones walking toward a nearby gas station. Law enforcement believed Jones and Richardson-Ross were acquainted. A large police response processed the scene, and at about 7:30 p.m. that evening Jones was located and taken into custody in Iredell County, North Carolina. The York County Sheriff’s Office announced a murder warrant and said extradition to South Carolina would be sought.

Joshua, born March 13, 2003, was remembered by family as quiet, loyal, faith-driven, and mechanically curious. He played football and basketball, enjoyed writing and music, and did missionary work in his community. Does anyone have information about Joshua’s last day at the motel or the people he knew there?
