Christian Alejandro ’Koko’ Orduna was 15 and a sophomore at Greer High School when he was shot in the head at a friend’s house on February 21, 2021. He was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and died there on February 24, 2021, after three days in care. An autopsy confirmed the gunshot wound as the cause of death.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office investigated the shooting. The solicitor’s office ultimately ruled the death accidental and no arrests were announced. Christian’s parents, Mark and Mirta Jazmin Alatorre Orduna, have since worked with organizations such as Project ChildSafe to promote firearm safety and distribute gun locks in their son’s memory.
