Zakiya Synercia Drinkard-McKinney, a 19-year-old Black woman, was shot and killed on the evening of February 8, 2021, at the Poplar Place Apartments in Greer, South Carolina. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office reported she died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Another person was wounded and taken to a local hospital.

Greer Police responded and arrested a 16-year-old later that same day; the teen’s name was not released because of age. The teenager was charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Authorities said they believed the shooting was an isolated incident and that the community was not at further risk. Motive remained under investigation.

Zakiya was a daughter and a sister to nine siblings. Does anyone have information about what led to the shooting or knew Zakiya and can help investigators?
