A dispute over money and a gambling game in the Red Bank area of Lexington County, South Carolina, ended in the fatal shooting of 38-year-old William Jason Clark. Known to friends and family as William Hollow, Clark was described as a loving, caring father who worked in construction and landscaping, enjoyed skydiving, and had been a successful amateur boxer. The shooting took place November 9, 2020, inside a house on South Hampton Avenue; Clark was shot in the lower body and taken to Lexington Medical Center, where he died November 10, 2020.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department identified 23-year-old James Joseph Patterson III of Richland County as the primary suspect and arrested him November 13, 2020 on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. At trial the jury found Patterson guilty of murder; he received a 30-year prison term for the murder charge and an additional five years for the weapon charge to be served concurrently.
