Curtis Lamont Bomar was 21 when he was killed during a chaotic shooting in Jonesville, South Carolina, on the night of May 23, 2020. The shooting happened during a large Memorial Day weekend block party on Dover Road, an event that had drawn an estimated crowd of nearly 1,000 people and hundreds of vehicles parked along the rural roadway. Deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office had been on scene earlier that evening to address noise and traffic, instructing the DJ to stop music and towing vehicles.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m., gunfire erupted and attendees fled into nearby woods and houses. Bomar was struck and died that night before he could be transported to a hospital. A 17-year-old, Jabbrie Brandon, also died later at a medical facility; five others were wounded. Investigators said multiple shooters may have fired from vehicles and on foot. Authorities arrested two men, Darnell Beacham and Shaquille Barbour, on charges connected to the deaths and injuries.
Bomar was remembered by family as a young father to a seven-month-old daughter, a Dorman High School graduate, an aspiring architect and an active member of New Life of Excellence church. Does anyone have information about Bomar, the event that night, or the people who were there?
