DeAndre Javaan Omar Rivers, 27, was found dead in the driver’s seat of his white 2010 Mercedes-Benz on Gullah Avenue in North Charleston at about 4:40 a.m. on May 6, 2020. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds; the coroner ruled the wounds fatal. A Goose Creek resident, Rivers was a son, brother, uncle, friend and was expecting a child. He had started a clothing line in 2019 and worked with his mother in a janitorial service.
Investigators developed evidence pointing to 36-year-old Quinton Anthony Taylor, including security camera footage that reportedly captured a rented Dodge Ram pickup near Rivers’ home before and after the shooting and showed a man exiting the truck and firing into Rivers’ vehicle as Rivers was leaving his residence. Taylor was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime; at that time he was already in custody on unrelated charges. Further investigation indicated the killing may have been arranged from jail, with allegations that an inmate communicated via a contraband phone and paid for the murder.
Does anyone have information about Rivers’ movements that morning or about the white Mercedes-Benz after 4:40 a.m. on May 6, 2020?
