Jaquarie Nasir Perry was 16 when he was fatally shot in the Flowertown neighborhood of Summerville, South Carolina, on the evening of January 27, 2020. A student at Summerville High School and described as a bright, promising young man, Perry was found with a gunshot wound after deputies responded to reports of shots fired into apartments. Deputies performed CPR and EMS responded, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation that quickly moved after community tips. Within days, three juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were arrested and an 18-year-old, Diante Xavier Shelton, was later taken into custody. Affidavits indicated the shooting may have occurred during a gun deal that went wrong, though officials did not release a specific motive. The sheriff’s office and the solicitor’s office began deciding whether the juveniles would be charged as adults.
If anyone knew Jaquarie or has information about what happened that night, please share what you know.
