Chad Elliot Yarborough was 44 when he was shot in the neck on January 24, 2020, in the parking lot of a convenience store at 900 S. Cashua Drive in Florence, South Carolina. He was taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center and died of his injuries three days later, on January 27, 2020. An autopsy was performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Florence County law enforcement identified 34-year-old Kristan Diana Collins of Florence as the person who fled the scene after the shooting and led officers on a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 95 before being captured. Charges initially included attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and the charge related to Yarborough’s death was later upgraded to murder. In March 2020 Collins pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received a 30-year prison sentence.
