Jeffrey Mitchell Mitch Snipes was 32 when he was killed on the evening of January 22, 2020. Emergency responders found him inside his home on Old Grove Road in Greenville County with a gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.

Investigators concluded shots were fired into the residence from a moving vehicle, striking Snipes. He worked as a welder and was known to family and friends in Piedmont. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office continued the probe for months and in July 2020 announced arrests in the case: Edward Gary Akridge, Jonathon Eugene Merchant, Arian Grace Jeane, and Joshua Lee Scott Brown were charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Motive has not been publicly disclosed, though investigators say the suspects and Snipes were acquainted.
