Charles Hemingway Jr., known as CeeJay, was 21 when he was shot and killed in Conway, South Carolina, on November 29, 2019. The shooting followed a physical fight at a residence on Mayfield Drive. Reports say the struggle began as a fistfight between Hemingway and another man, Aarin Jamal Michael, inside Michael’s mother’s home.

During the altercation a gun fell from Michael’s pocket; after the fight ended, Hemingway was recovering in a hallway when Michael retrieved the firearm and fired two shots. Hemingway’s wounds were fatal and Michael fled the scene. He was located and arrested in Loris about 14 miles from the crime scene ten days later.
