Ten-year-old Cabriya Lucas was killed by a gunshot inside a Hanahan, South Carolina, residence on the evening of Saturday, October 5, 2019. Hanahan Police responded to a 911 call around 10 p.m.; the Berkeley County Coroner later ruled her death a homicide.

Authorities said the investigation involved the Hanahan Police Department, the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Investigators treated the incident as isolated and focused on another child who was present. Police determined an 11-year-old boy was responsible for the fatal shooting, and a police incident report noted child endangerment as a possible aspect of the probe. The relationship between the children and details about criminal charges or the investigation’s final outcome were not released.

The community mourned Cabriya’s sudden death. If anyone has information about what happened that night, please come forward to assist the investigation.
