On the morning of September 8, 2019, a burst of gunfire at the Hop In convenience store and Sunoco on Broad Street in Sumter, South Carolina, left two men dead and several others wounded. One of the victims was 30-year-old Michael Carlton Rogers, a Sumter High School graduate whose mother described him as funny and loving. Rogers was shot during what police described as a gang-related shootout allegedly tied to tensions over a rap music video; he was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital and later died of his injuries.

Police identified several persons of interest in the days after the shooting and said the incident stemmed from escalating rival gang tensions. Investigators charged 26-year-old Diontrae Epps with the murder of Michael Rogers; the probe also led to charges in connection with the death of Rogers’ cousin, 30-year-old Gregory Donta Middleton, and to other arrests. A forensic expert testified at trial that the trajectory of the fatal bullet suggested it could not have come from Epps’ position, a point raised for the jury alongside surveillance footage and witness testimony.

Does anyone have information about Michael Rogers, the scene at the Broad Street station that morning, or footage that could clarify the shot’s origin?
