Darrin Demitrius Harrison, a 27-year-old resident of Orangeburg, South Carolina, died on August 2, 2019, in a Columbia hospital from gunshot injuries sustained in a July 21, 2019 shooting on Graham Street where he lived. He was born to Angela Johnson and the late Anthony Harrison, graduated from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, had recently earned a Culinary Arts Certificate, and is survived by two young sons. He enjoyed sports, reading, and spending time with family.
Orangeburg County deputies reported a group of men standing outside a Graham Street home when a passing vehicle’s occupants opened fire. Victims tried to take cover but were struck; Harrison was later taken to Prisma Health Richland Hospital and died nearly two weeks after the shooting. Investigators traced suspects to an apartment on Corona Street; during a SWAT response, two 19-year-olds, Latavish Ulmer Jr. and Derian James, fell through the ceiling while hiding. Officers found a stolen .45-caliber Smith & Wesson hidden in a cereal box.
Four people were arrested in connection with the incident. Shyheim Lippman, 23, and Shavore Guinyard, 19, were charged with three counts of attempted murder and possession of a stolen pistol; bond on the attempted murder charges was denied. Ulmer and James were charged with possession of a stolen pistol and malicious injury to personal property for ceiling damage.
