On the evening of May 22, 2019, gunfire in a Conway-area home on Greenleaf Drive ended the life of 57-year-old Charles Lawrence. Neighbors knew Lawrence, also called Chuck, as a helpful man who often did yard work for his girlfriend. He was found inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
Horry County police located 26-year-old Taylor Ryan Strode outside the home with a gun. Strode did not immediately surrender, prompting a standoff that brought SWAT and police negotiators to the scene; he was later taken into custody and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Strode was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and the case was scheduled to proceed through the courts.
Does anyone in the Conway community have information about Charles Lawrence, his routine, or the events that evening?
