Rodney Middleton, a 49-year-old truck driver from Moncks Corner, South Carolina, was shot and killed during a road‑rage incident on Highway 52 near Goose Creek in May 2019. Middleton was driving his semi when an aggressive exchange with another motorist escalated and the other driver produced a firearm and shot Middleton. He was taken to a nearby hospital and died later that day.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office investigated and identified Karrington Christian Holmes as the other driver. Holmes was taken into custody on unrelated charges, and investigators connected him to the Highway 52 shooting. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime; a jury later convicted Holmes of those charges and he received a 35-year prison sentence.
Anyone who witnessed the confrontation on Highway 52 that afternoon or who has additional information is asked to come forward.
