On the morning of March 17, 2019, 31-year-old Jamie Dale Smith of Easley was found dead in his pickup on the side of Locust Hill Road in Travelers Rest, Greenville County. His vehicle’s hazard lights were blinking; deputies found him in the driver’s seat with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators say Smith was lured to the location by what was presented as a pre-planned drug transaction. Authorities believe assailants opened his vehicle door and shot him, apparently during an attempted robbery. The slaying was linked to a similar shooting three days earlier in which two people were wounded in a comparable alleged setup.

Within a day, law enforcement arrested two people at a Travelers Rest residence: 22-year-old Adam Thomas Byrum and 21-year-old Corina Veronica Castro. Byrum allegedly tried to flee and was caught by a K-9; both were charged with murder and related counts, including attempted murder and weapons and conspiracy charges.

Does anyone in the area remember activity on Locust Hill Road or the supposed drug deals that week?
