On the evening of January 28, 2019, 34-year-old Marcus Pierre Kirk was inside his Thomas Road home in Spartanburg County when a car carrying four people drove past and fired multiple shots into the residence. At least one bullet struck Kirk fatally; two other occupants of the home were present but not injured. Shell casings recovered at the scene indicated that at least two different weapons were used. Law enforcement later identified the motive as a dispute involving illegal drugs.

Investigators arrested four suspects in connection with the drive-by shooting. Authorities determined that Matthew Blackwell, 27, of Clifton, fired the shot that killed Kirk. Blackwell later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 38 years in prison. Bobby Hank Wright, 32, of Cowpens, pleaded guilty and received a 25-year sentence. Tyler R. Bright, 26, of Piedmont, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, two counts of attempted murder, and a weapons charge; he was sentenced to 25 years, with a requirement to serve at least 85 percent before eligibility for release. At the time of Bright’s sentencing, charges remained pending against the fourth person believed to have been in the car.

Did anyone in the Spartanburg area see a vehicle circling Thomas Road that night or have information about the fourth occupant of the car?
