Charles Lee Cumming Jr., 35, was fatally shot at his home on Paxville Highway in Manning, South Carolina, on the evening of November 6, 2018. The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting call about 9:20 p.m. and found Cumming had been shot twice, in the chest and shoulder; he later died despite medical treatment.

Family members said others were in the home during the shooting but Cumming was the only person struck, and they believe he was specifically targeted. Relatives described him as a happy man, a father of four and a self-employed handyman who had just started a new job; an hour before the shooting he spoke on the phone with his brother-in-law and showed no sign of fear.

The Sheriff’s Office searched for a suspect and offered a reward for information, and Cumming’s family created a Facebook page titled Justice for Charles JR to solicit tips. No arrests have been announced and the case remains unsolved.

If anyone knew Charles, was at the Paxville Highway residence that night, or has information that could help, please come forward.
