De’Mon Davis, 22, was shot and killed in Fort Mill, South Carolina, on September 7, 2018. The shooting happened near Sanders Street and Tom Hall Street after a physical altercation escalated to gunfire. Officers arriving about 4:40 p.m. found Davis with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis had been a standout linebacker for South Pointe High School and played on several state championship teams.
Authorities identified a suspect quickly. Twenty-two-year-old Jackel Marquise Clinton of Lancaster was arrested the morning after the shooting in Chester County and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime; investigators say Clinton retrieved a gun after the fight and shot Davis. A second man, 21-year-old Anquante’ El-Malik Lemel Watts of Fort Mill, was arrested on October 13, 2018, and charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly driving Clinton away; he was released on $40,000 bond.
Was anyone in the Fort Mill area at the time who saw the altercation or has additional information about what led to the shooting?
