On a Saturday afternoon in August, 34-year-old Sharmine Pack was at Auto Doctors, an auto repair shop on South Pike Road East in Sumter, South Carolina, when a vehicle pulled up and a man, later identified as 38-year-old Demetrius Alexander Brown, got out and exchanged a few words with Pack. Witnesses say the brief conversation did not escalate, then Brown suddenly opened fire, shooting Pack at least once. After Pack fell, the shooter stood over him and fired several more times before fleeing.

Emergency services arrived around 4:30 p.m.; Pack was taken to Palmetto Health Tuomey and pronounced dead. Investigators linked the shooting to a dispute over a car purchase, with allegations of fraud in the transaction. Brown was described as a bald Black male, about 5 feet 7 inches and 300 pounds, and became the subject of a multi-state manhunt that included sightings in Georgia and involvement by the U.S. Marshals. He was located in Jacksonville, Florida, waived extradition, and was returned to South Carolina to face a murder charge and two counts of forgery related to the alleged fraudulent camper and truck purchases.

Did anyone in the area see Pack that day or have information about the disputed vehicle sale?
