On Sunday, July 15, 2018, Greenwood County resident Quatavious Freeman, 23, was shot along Sumter Street and later died from his injuries. Known at home as Tay, he was a young father who produced music and was remembered for helping others and being himself around family and friends. Police found a wounded 23-year-old with an apparent gunshot wound and he was rushed for emergency care; his death turned the evening into a homicide scene and prompted a memorial planned by family and friends for July 21, 2018, in Greenville.

Reporting and public statements in the months after describe his killing as unsolved. Law enforcement said detectives continued interviews but had not developed enough information and evidence to bring a prosecutable case, and no arrests or publicly named suspects had been announced. If anyone knew Quatavious Freeman, his movements that night, or has information about the shooting on Sumter Street, please come forward.
