On May 31, 2018, Cheirese Lutricia Smith Jackson, 39, was shot to death in her home in Timmonsville, South Carolina. Two of her daughters were also killed: 11-year-old Breyanna Priscilla Jackson and 14-year-old Nykerria Shanyia Jackson. The shooting left another adult and a child injured.

Investigators quickly focused on a person of interest who was the father of the two deceased children and had a relationship with Cheirese Jackson. Family members described a troubled history, and they reported the man had gone to the family’s home twice that day, with the second visit ending in the fatal shootings. Law enforcement located and arrested the suspect within a day and charged him with three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder; he made an initial court appearance on those charges.
