Mya Rae Lee, 21, was killed on May 17, 2018, in an apartment on South Stribling Street in Seneca, South Carolina. Authorities say she died of a gunshot wound to the head after what was described as a domestic dispute; she was pronounced dead at Oconee Medical Center.
The primary suspect was her 25-year-old boyfriend, Richard Anthony Dunston Jr., who was initially sought as armed and dangerous and for whom a warrant was issued. He turned himself in the day after the shooting and was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Family and friends held a vigil for Lee and called attention to domestic violence in the community. In October 2020 Dunston pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter as part of a plea agreement and received a 25-year prison sentence; he was reported eligible for parole consideration in 2039. What details about the events inside the apartment that night are still unclear to readers?
