A family gathering in Eastover, South Carolina, on the evening of May 5, 2018, ended in a deadly exchange of gunfire. A dispute between 47-year-old Horace Holmes of Eastover and 49-year-old Woody Allen Goodwin of West Columbia escalated until both men produced firearms and shot at each other in the 100 block of Henry Street.
Deputies who answered a shots-fired call found both men with upper-body gunshot wounds. Goodwin was pronounced dead at the scene; Holmes was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital and died shortly before 8 p.m. The Richland County Coroner’s Office determined both men died of gunshot wounds to the chest.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department opened an investigation; initial reports indicate the two men shot each other. No information on other suspects or arrests has been released. If anyone at that gathering or nearby that evening has information about what led to the argument, please come forward.
