On April 24, 2018, 20-year-old Charles Edward Durant II was shot and killed while sitting in a truck at a stop sign at the intersection of Spring Street and Church Street in Loris, South Carolina. Durant was with his girlfriend when another vehicle pulled alongside, a man got out and opened fire into their vehicle. Durant died at the scene and his girlfriend was severely injured.
Authorities say the shooting was tied to Durant’s refusal to join a local street gang. The gunman was identified as 25-year-old Tyshawn Smoke Brown. Following the attack Brown left Horry County, burned his clothes and disposed of the weapon; he was later arrested in New York in February 2020 on unrelated drug charges and returned to Horry County. Another person, Heath Reaves, was in the vehicle with Brown and faced pending charges related to the incident.
Durant, known to some as little Bo, graduated from Green Sea Floyds High School and was studying real estate at Horry-Georgetown Technical College with plans to sell property near the beach. Does anyone have information about Charles, his circle, or the events that night?
