Germaine McCoy was 18 when he was shot and killed at the Cambridge Apartments in Lamar, South Carolina, on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Responding officers and emergency personnel found McCoy with a gunshot wound; he died at the scene or shortly after from his injuries, leaving his family and community to cope with a sudden violent loss.
A 17-year-old local, Devon Rembert, was identified as a suspect and taken into custody by the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with murder and denied bond during the initial proceedings. The case remained in the court system for several years; in May 2022 Rembert pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received a 12-year prison sentence. Court information at sentencing also noted he faced charges in a separate 2020 homicide that was still pending.
Did anyone in Lamar know McCoy or have information about the events at Cambridge Apartments that night?
