Christopher Albert Burton was a 30-year-old roofer and father of four whose life in Greenville and the Slabtown area of Anderson County ended in violence before dawn on Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Just before 7 a.m., deputies responded to a Lynchburg Drive or Lynchburg Circle residence after a burst of gunfire. Two people were shot; Burton suffered a chest wound and was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:37 p.m. The Anderson County coroner listed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.
Authorities named Ryan Christopher Ballard of Easley the same day as the man they believed had fired multiple 9mm rounds at the Lynchburg address, also wounding the second victim in the leg. Ballard was arrested and booked into the Anderson County Detention Center on two counts of attempted murder as Burton’s death was confirmed. Early reports described a close-range assault inside a rural home, but investigators did not publicly state a motive. Little else about the court outcome appears in widely available reports.
If anyone knew Christopher Burton, his routines, or what happened that morning in Slabtown, please share information that might help fill the remaining gaps in this case.
