On the night of November 24, 2017, a fight inside Sapp’s Bar and Grill in McCormick County, South Carolina spilled into the parking lot and ended with two men shot dead. Joel Turner Jr., 44, and his 34-year-old cousin, Steven A. Banks, were both killed during the altercation. At least 100 patrons were inside the bar when the confrontation occurred.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigated at the request of the McCormick County Sheriff’s Office. In February 2018, four related men were arrested: brothers 22-year-old Jesse Cashawn Freeman III of McCormick and 27-year-old Travis Rashad Freeman of Spartanburg were identified in affidavits as the alleged shooters and charged with murder; their brother, 25-year-old Shiquan Marquez Freeman, and cousin, 22-year-old Devin Tyrone Crapps, both of Spartanburg, were charged with accessory after the fact. Authorities say Shiquan Freeman and Crapps fled the scene in the same vehicle as the shooters and did not report the crime.
Did anyone in the community witness the fight or the vehicle leaving the scene?
