On the morning of October 31, 2017, Stephen Hutchins, 41, was killed in a drive-by shooting at a residence on Beauregard Road in the Sangaree area of Summerville, South Carolina. The shooting followed a dispute earlier that day over an allegedly stolen handgun. Two men, identified as 28-year-old Joshua Scott Westall and 32-year-old Maurice Durell Wigfall, reportedly left the house where the firearm had been taken, then returned and opened fire on the residence. Hutchins, who was inside, was struck and died; several other people at the home escaped without injury. Investigators later said Hutchins was not the person who had taken the gun and was not the intended target.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office investigated, and both Westall and Wigfall were arrested within days and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. A jury later convicted Wigfall. Does anyone have information about Hutchins, his activities in Sangaree that day, or witnesses who saw the shooting?
