On the evening of August 7, 2017, outside Biggerstaff Grocery on Farley Avenue in Spartanburg, South Carolina, 28-year-old Tyshann Rashad Smith was found fatally shot inside a car following a triple shooting. The violence also killed Raymond Turner and left a third person with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say an argument escalated into gunfire. Smith reportedly shot Raymond Turner first; in the chaos that followed, 19-year-old Gettis Andre Chambers shot and killed Smith. Crime scene evidence included shell casings from three different firearms, indicating multiple shooters.
Chambers fled the state and was later located in Maryland; authorities report he had changed his appearance and was in possession of guns and drugs when arrested and charged in connection with Smith’s death. Smith’s family described him as a bright and loving father who had been working to improve his life.
