Carlos Castrell McKay, 45, was found dead behind Reflexxions night club on U.S. Highway 301 North in Dillon, South Carolina, in the early morning hours of August 2, 2017, after deputies responded to multiple calls of gunfire. Initial reports to law enforcement came in around 2:41 a.m.; one man with gunshot wounds had already been taken to a hospital, and McKay’s body was discovered more than an hour later during a search of the premises.

Investigators shifted attention to the man who had sought medical treatment after inconsistencies and evidence from the scene identified him as a suspect. Christopher John Flowers, 30, of Laurinburg, North Carolina, became the subject of a fugitive warrant for McKay’s murder. Laurinburg officers later stopped a vehicle carrying Flowers and found him in possession of a stolen firearm; he was arrested and held on local weapons charges and the South Carolina fugitive warrant. Two other men in the vehicle were questioned but not charged.
