James Calvin Cowboy Hill, 48, was found shot in the head and dead in a ditch off Burdette Road in the Simpsonville area of Greenville County, South Carolina, on June 17, 2017. Deputies arrived after a shooting was reported and discovered a pool of blood before locating Hill at the scene. Investigators described the killing as arising from a confrontation.
A Fountain Inn resident, Diderikcous Jacobi Hill, was arrested in connection with the shooting; testimony later emphasized the two men were not related. The accused remained jailed for years while the case moved slowly through the courts, including disruptions during the COVID-19 era. A prosecution witness said he heard a gunshot as he walked to his car that night but did not see who fired.
In October 2021 a jury returned a not-guilty verdict for Diderikcous Jacobi Hill. Hill’s family held a service in Greenville the week after the killing. Does anyone have information about James Hill, his movements that night, or witnesses who were near Burdette Road on June 17, 2017?
